Al Farsha Flower Man, Saudi Arabia
The flower men live exclusively in the remote southern regions of Saudi Arabia, near the border of Yemen. They wear handcrafted headdresses woven from fresh flowers and scented grass. The journey from Yemen to Somalia takes three to four days. Historically, most boat crossings occurred in the Gulf of Aden, but today three out of four boats reaching Yemen from the Horn of Africa come ashore on the country’s Red Sea coast. A few days’ journey by boat and foot lay between the Flower Men and the Surma body artists.
